METALLICA: 'Some Kind Of Monster' To Air On VH1
February 28, 2005The METALLICA documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" will premiere on VH1 on April 9 with a commercial-free prime time airing. Variety reports that the network payed a rumored half a million dollars for the exclusive four-year rights to the film.
As previously reported, "Some Kind of Monster" won the prize for Best Documentary at the 2005 IFP Independent Spirit Awards, held on Saturday (Feb. 26) in Santa Monica, California. The Independent Spirit Awards, which traditionally take place in a beachfront tent, honor films that are funded at least in part through sources outside the major Hollywood studios. Although "Some Kind of Monster" was initially funded by METALLICA's label, Elektra Records, the group themselves eventually picked up the entire $4 million cost of the film.
The film chronicles METALLICA's near-breakup as they dealt with internal struggles during the making of 2003's "St. Anger" album. The movie opened in theatres last July and arrived on DVD in January.
